Extension of the customer's business
Founded in 2013, Van Dijk Staircase Solutions has grown into a B2B player supplying staircase renovation components across Europe. Van Dijk is part of the StairCampus, a group of family owned businesses that focuses for 100% on staircase renovation. ‘The group is a real knowledge and development centre in the field of stair renovation from A to Z,’ Flip said, adding that the StairCampus group has some 160 employees.
Van Dijk has customers in the Benelux, France, Scandinavia and Germany, among others. Steadily, the company is also making moves into Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the UK. The company produces staircase renovation components as private labels as well as under two of its own labels, MexForm and Stairs2Go. In addition, Van Dijk collaborates with leading flooring manufacturers in OEM production.
‘In our operations, the focus is on what the customer needs, more than on our own products and services. In that respect, we are the extension of our customer,’ says Flip Kitslaar, who has been working in marketing and brand management for major players such as Deli Home and Nestlé.
Standard solutions, customisation and installation
The customer-centric approach is not an empty marketing promise. Those who knock on Van Dijk Staircase Solutions' door have the choice of standard staircase renovation components or customised solutions. The staircase components consist of laminate, but in 2025 an LVT segment with 10 decors will be added as well as a line of matching LVT flooring. ‘Thanks to its thickness of 4.6 millimetres, this LVT segment will be extremely suitable for renovation projects,’ says Flip.
Staircase renovation projects are commissioned by various types of customers. Some examples are stair specialists, interior design shops, wholesalers or industrial players. ‘We also notice that more and more flooring specialists are jumping on the staircase bandwagon. Stairs are becoming a full-fledged accessory for those who want to renew their floors. Moreover, we notice the trend that the decor of the floor is being extended to the stairs. Staircase renovation is no longer neglected, but is an essential part of an interior transformation,’ clarifies Flip.
Van Dijk thus also responds to the customer's situation in terms of installation. This calls for tailor-made solutions and flexibility. ‘Customers have the option to buy standard or customised parts from us and take care of the installation themselves,’ says Flip. ‘With the ICM20 technology, staircase renovation is accessible for everyone as it simplifies the complexity of it. It offers a solution to growing shortage of skilled craftsmen, and our clients clearly get greater efficiency at a lower cost.’
Time to dig in to this revolutionary new concept ICM20, which allows retailers and installers to measure and configure a complete staircase in a record time.
ICM20, the innovation in stair renovation
Stair renovation is a profession in its own right. Moreover, the stair sector, like many others, suffers from a serious shortage of technically trained installers. ‘Time is more than ever the determining factor in the staircase renovation segment. Specialist installers are fewer and fewer, but the demand for staircase renovation is growing. Moreover, training new installers takes a lot of time,’ Flip says.
In 2023, Van Dijk Staircase Solutions have launched a time-saving innovation for installers and retailers. Through Van Dijk's online management tool, customers can configure the desired staircase and use the app ‘ICM20’ to measure the existing staircase extremely accurately. ‘Using your smartphone and some markers, you take pictures of each step. If required, we can follow the measurement live and make adjustments if necessary", Flip clarifies.
This globally patented ICM20 technology is not only fast and efficient, but also offers opportunities for floor professionals and retailers to upsell, for example. ‘The intuitive tool is user-friendly and requires no specific technical knowledge. The measurement takes about an hour for an average staircase and there are timely checkpoints during the process,’ Flip continues. After the configuration and measurement, Van Dijk immediately receives all the data needed to produce the custom-made staircase.
Thanks to the time savings as well as the commercial added value, the ICM20 tool already promises to accelerate Van Dijk's international breakthrough. ‘This tool is suitable for both installers and retailers who see opportunities in stair renovation to serve their end customers even better,’ concludes Flip.
