Despite special circumstances in 2020, EPLF members were able to grow their business by + 2,74 % in comparison to 2019, with 459.0 million m² of flooring sold. Considering that the pandemic brought the flooring industry to a near standstill in spring, members managed to overcome the recess rather quickly as global sales picked up speed and developed very positively over the rest of the year. Looking at the global markets, North America recorded the biggest increase in sales with + 22,4 % in comparison to 2019 and 49.1 million m² sold. The main driver for the major increase in sales in North America - and the general recovery of global sales figures - was most likely the popularity of renovation and DIY projects during the pandemic.
The CISUFLO project was selected to receive funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme which is the biggest EU innovation and research funding instrument. CISUFLO stands for CIrcular SUstainable FLOoring and is a joint project of the European Floor Coverings Association (EuFCA) and other participants from the flooring industry such as research institutes, recycling companies and public authorities. In order to minimise the environmental impact of the sector, CISUFLO aims to set up a systemic framework for circular floor coverings, laminate, vinyl and textiles. A budget of 7.7 million Euros will be available for the project’s expected duration of 48 months.
